U.S. Chamber Releases State Legal Climate Rankings

Apr 30, 2007

On April 25, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for Legal Reform (ILR) released its annual State Liability Systems Ranking Study to highlight the country's best and worst legal environments in which to do business.

This year's study shows that while there has been a slight overall improvement in the states' legal environments since the study was first launched six years ago, there are still states and counties that have become "magnet courts" for litigation, in particular Madison County, Ill. and Jefferson County, Texas.

ILR is launching a national advertising campaign highlighting the results of the study and the need for comprehensive legal reform.

The ILR/Harris Interactive survey is given to a national sample of in-house general counsel or other senior corporate litigators to explore how reasonable and balanced the tort liability system is perceived to be by U.S. business.
