Study: Costs of Ozone Standards Outweigh Benefits

Jul 28, 2011

OzoneThe business community continues pushing back on EPA's attempt to rush through new ozone standards. Today, the American Petroleum Institute (API) released a study showing the costs of the new standards would outweigh the benefits.

On a conference call today, API Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Director Howard Feldman feared,

This could be EPA’s costliest regulation ever.  No rules could be more detrimental to economic growth, and they could not come at a worse time as the nation struggles with an unsteady economic recovery. They also fly directly in the face of President Obama’s initiative to rein in unnecessary or overly burdensome government regulations.

Because the new standards are "out-of-cycle, not supported by science, and would have devastating economic consequences" Feldman thinks EPA "should move forward with the normal 5-year review now under way."
