This morning U.S. Chamber President Tom Donohue, Laborers’ International Union of North America President Terry O’Sullivan, and American Road & Transportation Builders Association President Pete Ruane launched the Americans for Transportation Mobility Coalition’s FasterBetterSafer Campaign.  The Campaign is a nationwide effort by business, labor, transportation organizations, and concerned citizens that supports increased federal investment in transportation. Its goal is to demonstrate to policy-makers in Washington the groundswell of public support for repairing, rebuilding, and revitalizing America’s aging transportation system.

The diverse members of the Coalition are joined together in the common belief that the United States needs a transportation system that moves people and delivers goods in a safe and timely fashion. Unfortunately, the nation’s transportation system continues to decline and deteriorate, jeopardizing Americans’ safety and quality of life, the economy, and the environment. The cost of continued inaction is too high.  Improving the nation’s transportation infrastructure is a national problem and must be a national priority.

Federal highway and public transportation programs are up for reauthorization in 2009. The FasterBetterSafer Campaign will urge Congress and the next Administration to reform transportation programs and maximize federal investment in roads, bridges, and public transit. The status quo is not an option and action must be taken now. WE MUST SUCCEED!

As part of the Campaign’s effort, a new website has been launched  It includes information on transportation issues, current legislative developments, important research and reports, and the latest transportation news.  Visit today and let Washington know that you support increased investment in transportation.
